"Where in Seeking Him we are found by Him"

Our Mission

"We are a diverse community, one under God, joined together to celebrate the love of Jesus Christ through worship, outreach and the Call to service."

A Message From the Pastor

It finally rained and it has become quite evident that the birds in my back yard love the change; large numbers of birds were ready to eat the fruit off my fig tree as soon as the fruit took on color and the singing in the cool mornings can not be missed.  The writer of Ecclesiastes writes:” For everything there is a season and a time for every matter under heaven...”   It is summer in South Texas and there is a rhythm that all creatures of God fall into.

Days are hot and it does take much manual labor to break a sweat.  Summer has a way of beating us down and there is a laziness that invades our existence because we can not be overloaded with the effects of too much Sun.  It is interesting that it is in this kind of hot weather in which the Genesis account of creation was written.

There are two powerfully revolutionary ideas in the Genesis account that are unique in World history: (1.) All mankind (men and women) are made in God’s image and (2.) As Icons of God we are called to Sabbath.    No where else is this claim made in the ancient world other than in the Hebrew scriptures.  We owe a great deal of gratitude to our ancient forbears for capturing this Godly mandate for us who live in the Western World; a Godly mandate for a basic human right.   No longer were those who ruled by “Divine Right” the only ones to have the privilege of rest but, all humanity!  The mandate for Sabbath is not solely for us to keep but to share with the rest of the World.  Without the integration of this mandate in our society our quality of life would be greatly diminished.   It doesn’t take much imagination nor investigation of other cultures to discover what lack of rest does to the human constitution; just take a look at photographs of average people in other parts of the world where there is no Sabbath; one can readily see how quickly the people age.

It is from this concept of Sabbath that we get our understanding of vacation.  So as you go about your days of vacation note that behind this right you have been granted is the admonition to keep the Sabbath holy; that is, make your days wholesome with an acknowledgment that ultimately it is God who provides for us.   Thank God for the blessings that you have been bestowed!
